Athletics - Summer Games
It was a hot, sunny summer weekend and shade was at a premium at
the Penn State Outdoor Track for this year’s edition of the Special
Olympic State Summer Games. The athletes laced up their sneakers
and put on show for their fans in attendance.
The Centre County team of athletes was as hot as the track they ran
on. Their "home track and field" advantage was evident by the
medals and ribbons garnered over the weekend and the ability to help
out the track officials with the rules of the track.
When Alek, Curtis, Dan, Nikki, Rachel, Tanya and Jeff were not
competing, they enjoyed the Athletes Village, opening and closing
ceremonies, "the dance", sports and games night and partying with their
fellow Centre County teammates. It was their great team spirit
that captured the hearts of the coaches and made for a special
weekend. Awards were plentiful:
