Volunteer Opportunities - Bowling Lane Monitor
Bowling is one of the most popular sports. In the
Fall, SOCC offers a limited bowling training schedule. During this
time, athletes are made aware of SO bowling regulations, those new to
the game receive instruction, and all athletes are reminded of bowling
etiquette. During the Fall season, SOCC holds its annual Bowl-a-thon, a
major fundraiser. A local tournament caps off the end of the season.
The Spring session includes 10 weeks of training, leading up to the
qualifying tournament. Bowlers selected at that event are eligible to
compete at the Summer Games, held in June at Penn State. Lane monitors
assist athletes by keeping score, reminding the athletes of the
regulations, offering encouragement, and assisting the coach in
supervising the venue.
Lane monitors may not be able to commit for the entire 10-week training
series, but they are asked to commit to a minimum of three 2.5-hour
sessions. If unable to attend, it is up to the lane monitor to contact
the coach at least a day in advance and, if possible, arrange a
substitute.
